About Me

In 2006 I began my career working for a collection agency while in school for my Bachelor’s degree. While working for the agency, I stumbled into the in-house legal department assisting with the legal support staff. It was interesting work and I found myself drawn to the cases, the forms, and the process. In 2007 I decided to attend the De Anza College ABA Approved Paralegal Program. I graduated from the program in 2008 while still studying for my undergraduate degree. I graduated from San Jose State University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in a double major: Behavioral Science and Sociology. I continued to work for the same company but actually as a paralegal working closely with the attorney of record. It was joyous.

In 2016 I left the company to spend time with my young daughter. Per the California Code I kept attending my Continuing Legal Education courses to keep my paralegal certification but I longed for the work, the cases, and the processes. When COVID hit in 2020 and we were all shut into our homes and doing business (and everything else) online, I made the decision to attend Northwestern California University School of Law. This school provides students the opportunity to take courses online and submit assignments, midterms, and finals electronically.

It has been a wonderful four years training in the law but still I long for the “work” of a paralegal. Through pure luck, a Facebook post in the online legal community caught my attention with discussion of Legal Document Assistants and a group called CALDA. After a bit of research I realized I could have the best of both worlds: I could perform the “work” drafting legal documents while also helping the community with their legal document needs but without the paralegal requirement of having to work only under an attorney.

As a legal document assistant, I can help provide document support for those in my community who need the service of someone who knows legal documents but aren’t interested in paying the high prices for an attorney. I get to help people, do the work, and feel the fulfillment all through this program. I have studied and gotten bonded and registered through the County of Santa Clara and I am ready to help.
